Kimchi and so much more

Kimchi and other delicacies

The food in Korea was amazing. Every night was a surprise!  Even the Kimchi was good. Radish pickles were my favorite colorful addition to a meal.  Bindetok was as good as it looked in the Kimchi Chronicles video.  Bibimbap was just what its name described– mixed rice! Fresh veggies and the egg that cooks in the hot bowl into a scrambled fried egg.  Like egg foo young without all the extra work for the cook.

And the State Fair has nothing on the food venders of Seoul- weird food on a stick is

Crispy, chewy seasoned fried potato on a stick

every where- from the yummy spiral potato chips to the awful smelling squid on a stick in the park.  Pancakes and sausages, dumplings and donut like cakes with bean paste.  I could eat my way down the street if I didn’t have more will power.

Eww! – larva and snail shells

Of course there was some really awful things- silkworm larva boiled in broth– a snack you eat with a stick (toothpick)  or the tiny little shellfish you suck out of their shells. I had to have a bit of makoli to even try them.

But there is no amount of alcoholic beverage that would get me to eat raw octopus.  If I can get the video to work– you can see for yourself what our brave companions, Corey and Erika were willing to put in their mouth.  I still shudder thinking about it.

So I am on the hunt for recipes for the foods I liked.  Radish pickles are the first thing.

As I find the recipes and sources for the ingredients I will post them here.

For now- images of our dinners to whet your appetite…

A table full of delicacies and strange foods on our first night in Korea. Hmm, what looks good to eat?

Last dinner in Korea- all Korean barbequed meat – except for the raw beef and egg concoction

Bibimbap — the after shot

The side dishes that accompany Bibimbap. The Egg custard was amazing, love the ferns, and of course the radish pickles are all gone

So, what do you think?
